Conflict is a constant and an inevitable occurrence in normal day to day living. The focus is usually for one to manage conflict but it would be better to learn how to identify conflict first and also to realize that conflict is not always necessarily a negative thing. A greater understanding of what conflict is, when it occurs, why it occurs and what the consequences are, gives one a better opportunity to manage the situation more effectively, especially from an individual perspective.

Workshop: Conflict – from identification to resolution
Length of Training: 1 day
Type of Workshop: CPD Workshop (Attendance Certificate)
Facilitator: Gareth Hallett and Jenna Hughes
Assessment: None
Target Audience: Any persons wishing to identify and understand conflict as well as develop the ability to cope with conflict
Before you can manage conflict, it is important to understand what it truly is. It is important to appreciate that every individual understands, perceives and reacts to conflict differently. Creating awareness of how you understand conflict allows you to identify where the different beliefs occur. It will also provide the areas that need to be developed before attempting to manage conflict situations. Conflict impacts organisations enormously as it is a burden in that it is demoralizing, counterproductive and time consuming. It has direct costs through legal fees, severance pay and missing deadlines as well as hidden costs through lowered job motivation, absenteeism, distracted management and lack of commitment. However, conflict managed effectively can foster organisational growth, promote creativity and improve interpersonal skills.
