Strategy in Process: A Training Course in Theory and Practice

Organisations are all confronted with a turbulent, competitive, unpredictable and fast changing environment.  Survival in this context requires that an organisation is able to adapt to and navigate these waters effectively. In fact, many futurists, strategists, and management consultants would argue that whether in a recession or not, organisations need to re-evaluate their competitive positions on a regular basis. In order to do this, organisations need to continually understand their strategic positions, make considered and appropriate strategic choices bearing in mind the future, and lastly manage strategy in implementation.

What is the aim of the course?

The training course is focused on enabling participants, whether line managers, or internal/external facilitators, to independently design appropriate strategy processes through exposing them to evidence-based theories, processes and techniques which are based on a unique combination of business and psychological principles in a variety of contexts.

Why attend?

The benefits of attending this course include:

  • Learning about a clear-cut and practical framework for understanding strategy
  • Being provided with a step-by-step process to follow when facilitating your own strategy (whether for your division or for your/an organisation)
  • Equipping you with the right tools to provide direction and competitiveness (whether for your division or for your/an organisation)
  • Being exposed to tried and tested theories, processes and methods
  • Applying theory, processes and methods to ‘real life’ scenarios

Who should attend?

Internal/External Consultants, Facilitators, Line Managers and any person wishing to learn about the theory and practice of strategy facilitation.

What will participants learn?

As illustrated in the Model, the training course concentrates on assisting delegates with the necessary theory, processes and techniques to:

  • prepare for a strategy intervention
  • Facilitate an understanding of an organisation’s environmental context
  • Facilitate an appreciation of an organisation’s current reality
  • Facilitate an appreciation of an organisation’s future strategic position
  • Facilitate the development of gap closing techniques which highlights a clear path to the implementation of a strategy

Past participants have found this training to be very practical and relevant to their jobs as they were able to facilitate their own strategies in their respective divisions.

What is the duration? Three days.  The first two days are dedicated to the theory, processes and techniques and on the last day delegates are expected to present on an independently designed strategy facilitation process.

Where can the training be held?  The training course can be held in-house or at JvR’s premises.
