JvR’s research team has a dual function in terms of the kind of projects in which it is involved. These can be described as the Test Publishing and Consulting functions. The Test Publishing function provides a solid base to the products that JvR distributes and the services that we offer. The research team also adds value to the training function at JvR by providing the latest available research to courses such as the MBTI, BarOn EQ-i, and 16PF. The Consulting function provides assistance to our clients by being a knowledge broker in the field of psychological assessment.Test Publishing

The main activities in this function are the validation and standardisation of psychometric assessments and providing research assistance to students and other clients who wish to use JvR’s assessments in their studies.

Consulting

The main activities in this function have to do with providing clients with customised solutions to their research needs. This can range from providing advice on test development to conducting actual research projects within organisations or institutions.

In order to ensure the continued excellence of the products distributed, JvR has a specialised research team that is committed to the validation in Southern Africa of both international flagship tests and designer South African assessments. JvR values the personal and professional growth of their clients, and can assure this with products that are shown to be appropriate for use in the South African context. Collaborative research initiatives between JvR, government institutions, organisations, and universities serve to strengthen the use of these tests in the South African context. Furthermore, JvR encourages clients to better understand the psychometric properties of the assessments with which they work by consulting with experienced JvR researchers for a concise and straightforward explanation of statistical and methodological terms. JvR also keeps up to date with the latest research and trends in South African assessment practices, in order to offer JvR clients cutting-edge solutions to their assessment needs.

Offering

The nature of the research projects undertaken at JvR are determined by market requirements, international publisher requirements, and HPCSA requirements. Due to the scope and intensity of standardisation projects, the research team can only undertake a few each year. Luckily, our research plans often overlap with those of our clients and students or researchers, who partner with us to collect data for our research enterprises. Projects

Students busy with their post-graduate studies in psychology are welcome to approach JvR for assistance with projects involving products distributed by JvR. In recognising the ongoing need for quality research in educational institutions, JvR aims to support and encourage psychology students who undertake quantitative research projects using psychometric tests.The Research Assistance Program originated with the aim of affording students and academics the opportunity to add to the current psychometric assessment knowledge base, while simultaneously developing their skills in the area of sound psychological research. Projects undertaken in collaboration with JvR obtain the full support of the professional research team, and may qualify for special research discounts on selected products and services.
